All night bus to DC. Didn't sleep much at all, if any.
Got to DC at 7AM. Had breakfast, which wasn't very good at all. Left my pack in a locker at the bus station. Took a 4 hour bus tour of the city. Went past all the big sights and stopped at the Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials as well as the Kennedy graves. Had lunch at the Smithsonian and watched the pendulum knock over pegs. Far out!
Retrieved my pack and walked through the city from the bus station to the train station. Got a lot of looks and comments from people as I "hiked" down the side walks with my pack and hiking stick. Sat around for a few hours reading and writing letters. I was sure feeling lonely.
Got on the train after getting wet from a thunder shower going from the station to the train. It started raining just as I got outside, of course. Had an interesting trip with a car full of men in business suits signing petitions and drinking.
Got to Harpers Ferry at 6PM. A group of Boy Scouts got off, too. Walked toward the hostel. Did get a ride after a while. There were 3 other people at the hostel: one hiker and 2 bicyclists. No one around to collect money. Went to a restaurant and wrote letters over dinner.
