Woke up to a beautiful day today for a change. The sun rose over the mountain as we were getting ready to start out. It was a perfect day. Sunny, very nice temperatures, in the 50s or 60s. We saw some fantastic views for a change, too. Spring is finally begining to make it's appearance. We began to see buds opening today. I climbed Albert Mountain, but Rick didn't because of his Achilles tendon [he took the bad weather alternate route trail]. It was a short but very steep climb. Well worth it though, with views in every direction. It was so clear I could see forever, it seemed. After lunch we set out for 3 miles or so of even walking with no real climbs and only a couple of steepish descents. We went too fast through this section. My knee began to hurt again and it got worse as we went along. By the time we reached Wallace Gap I was limping even without my pack on.

We ran into 5 people going in the opposite direction this afternoon. First people we have seen in a long time [since Plum Orchard Shelter]. When we reached the road we planned to hitch a ride to Franklin, but there didn't seem to be any traffic. So I went down to a house down the hill a ways, and asked to use their phone to call a cab. It cost us $6 and we are staying in a cabin in town for $6. We went to a laundromat and ate at a steak house. Franklin is a fairly big town with a lot of stores and shops along Main Street. At night the scene seems to be the teenagers out cruising in their Hot-Rods [a bit like American Graffiti].
