It was foggy and cold this morning. Got up and cooked our breakfast in bed. Started out about 9:30. It had pretty much cleared by then. The fog was moving out and the sun was beginning to shine through the pines. Had some really fantastic views this morning. Mostly on the North Carolina side. Took lots of pictures and now I'm running low on film. Can't get anymore before Hot Springs.
The trail wasn't too difficult, except for 2 long, but not too steep climbs in the last 4 miles. Had lunch overlooking deep gorge on Tennessee side. It's been cold all day. Some sun until 11:00, then hazy high clouds. Will be pretty cold tonight.

Got to the shelter at 2:45. Two guys already here and more showed up right after we arrived. Later a volunteer ranger arrived and checked our permits. He's hiking through and staying here tonight. Having trouble finding fire wood. The shelter is great compared to False Gap, but otherwise it's pretty messy. Too many people hike this section of trail.
