| Taylors Valley from Ivey Moore's camp |
Got wet last night in the rain. Rained all morning steady and hard at times. I was bothered last night with my sore throat. Today it is real bad. Swollen glands and very sore on the right side only. Ivey thinks it's tonsillitis. Felt slightly feverish this afternoon and evening. May try to see a doctor in Damascus tomorrow. It hurts so bad that swallowing is difficult.
Went to Damascus this morning with Ivey in his van hoping to get a hold of Rick and Louise and maybe bring them over to Taylors Valley. They all had gotten acquainted in town before. They weren't there, nor was anyone else. They were all up at Bno and Mona's cabin for dinner from the note that was left. We left a note for them. Another hiker was there on the porch and we brought him along. Michael from Long Island. We all went back and by the time we got to Taylors Valley the weather had cleared up and it was beautiful.
Ivey had gotten permission for us to use the community center. Nice place with bathroom, fridge, stove, running water, pot bellied stove, tables, chairs. We got into the center, went back to Ivey's camp and had beans, french fries and potatoes, fruit cocktail and coffee, and a bit of wine with dinner. It was all great except for the fact that I was not feeling well.
| Raging river after the rain |
The river rose real high from all the rain. We watched it get higher all day long. Must have risen a couple of feet at least. Really rushing through now. Another hiker has joined us - from New Jersey. The guy from Long Island is quite the singer and plays the recorder.

Ivey told us about all his adventures: in the Navy for both WWI and WWII, cow-hand, farmer, led Daniel Boone wagon train on the Daniel Boone trail for 7 years. Real interesting stories. Meeting Ivey has been one of the highlights of this entire journey so far.
