Day 58 - Saturday, May 18, 1974 - Fullhardt Knob Leanto to Bobbletts Gap Leanto

13.8 miles - 426.2 cumulative miles

Woke up around 7AM.  Two people came to the shelter at about 1 or 2 AM.  We had 3 other people with us in the shelter, one thru-hiker and two guys going south.  There was one other guy who slept outside.

Fullhardt Knob Leanto

We hiked a good distance today and took it easy.  The trail was really well graded.  It went up and down quite a bit.  Went through lots of rhododendrons, all in bloom.  And the mountain laurel is coming out.  It was really nice.

We met 2 groups from Waterford CT who are hiking from Georgia to Pennsylvania.  They had a dog with them who was carrying his own pack with his food in it.

Most of the afternoon we were hiking along the Blue Ridge Parkway.  It started raining and thundering about half a mile before getting to Bobbletts Gap Leanto.  We got soaked.  And then it stopped just as we were getting to the shelter.  Of course it really felt good after sweating in the heat all day.  When we got to the shelter we found it packed liked sardines by a large group of kids.  Bummer.  Will probably have to sleep out tonight.  Hope it doesn't rain.
